The Quentin Tarantino Guide to Creating Killer Content

Cohen and I were talking about a book he read and was complaining the the author did more telling than showing. It was a major flaw of the book. If you have ever taken any type of writing course “show don’t tell” narrowly misses being the cardinal rule of writing, edged out narrowly by “don’t plagiarize.” But we both know the author and I’m fairly sure a university is not where he got his education.

In any event, there was a great post by Sean Platt over at Copyblogger using The Commode scene from Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs to show the point and effectiveness of showing versus telling. Obviously while this case is illustrated by film, the message is certainly applicable to writing. And  a screenplay did have to be written, so it all comes full circle.
