I ::Stan:: good rap music

So with dudes like a Pill or Jay Elect, I know I push them hard and sometimes wonder if I come across on some Stan shit. But the truth is, I really, really like these dudes, and there isn’t much that I even really like these days. There’s some established cats I’m a fan of (Ghost, Styles, etc.) but with the current state of the music industry, and looking forward, I just think it’s important to push the cats I think are genuinely talented. (In a similar vein, the Hevehitta and DJ Unexpected Nas & Jay: Deadly Duo was a flawless mixtape. It showed the potential of a mixtape as a creative work of art.) So not that I really plug our mag or associate too much over here with what I do over there, maybe a little of my clout or rep will get someone to listen to these cats, and tell more people about these cats who will turn around and tell more people and their popularity and appeal with grow expotentially, which eventually, somewhere down the road, will lead to these artists being paid for their skills. For instance there is a girl I work with that is a punkrock chick. (So much so she showed me the tattoo she got on her ass yesterday. It’s a hammer and it says “Drive Hard and Recklessly.” It’s for her friend Hammer that was a junkie and strung himself up.) I turned her on to Pill and I have full blown email dissertation breakdowns of his songs and mixtapes. And she has turned her punkrock friends on to him. Do I think the punkrockers are going to really have an effect on the making or breaking of Pills career? No. But it does illustrate my point. And fuck it, it’s no skin off my back. I’m doing it instead of watching porn.

Having said that, I’m debating trying to get a hold of Pill for our next issue, but I’m not sure if I have time. I may try to reach out to dude and if I can make it jump off quick enough… Between the buzz of Trap Goin Ham, the CMJs, appearance on Kay Slay’s show and the upcoming mixtape dropping, it makes sense.

The fact that my favorite and in my opion most talented rappers are ones that you have never heard doesn’t make me cool, it makes me sad.
For everyone.

And for the Jay electronuica fix, here you go:

This joint is fucking disgusting.

Jay Electronica – Exhibit C (Prod. Just Blaze)

When I was sleeping on the train
Sleeping on Meserole Ave out in the rain
Without even a single slice of pizza to my name
Too proud to beg for change mastering the pain
When NY niggas was calling southern rappers lame
But then jackin our slang
I used to get dizzy spells, hear a little ring
The voice of a angel telling me my name
Telling me that one day imma be a great man
Transforming with the MegatronDon spittin out flames
Eatin wack rappers alive shittin out chains
I aint believe it then, nigga I was homeless
Fightin, shootin dice, smoking weed on the corners
Tryna find the meaning of life in a corona
Till the 5%ers rolled up on a nigga and informed him.

“You either build or destroy, where you come from?”
“The Magnolia projects in the 3rd ward slum”
“Hmm, its quite amazing that you rhyme how you do
And how you shine like you grew up in a shrine in Peru.”

“Kill a nigga, rob a nigga, take a nigga, buss up”
Thats why when you talk that tough talk I never feel ya
You sound real good and you play the part well
But the energy you givin off is so unfamiliar
I dont feel ya.
