So while most people were out having a raging good time on New Year’s Eve (or pretending they were, or wishing they were…) I was more than content on my couch watching 4 hours straight of Embedded on Current‘s TV station. I have talked previously about my obsession with behindthe scenes stuff, and Current fills that void by following artists around for a week. It probably helped that the first artist they did was Mos Def, shadowing him across Japan.

I ended up watching four hours of the show with a bunch of different artists (Silver Sun Pickups, Ben Harper, Common, Thievery Corporation, The Decemberists, Lykke Li, Bloc Party, Bon Iver, Elvis Perkins, Delta Spirit, White Rabbits, The Black Lips, Nipsey Hussle, Amanda Palmer…). There wasn’t one group or artist picked that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. The program or their music.

The biggest score by far was finding out who sang that diddy used in the commercial for the Palm Pixi. It is Passion Pit‘s Sleepyhead. I love this song.

And everything is going to the beat
And everything is going to the beat
And everything is going

And you said
It was like fire around the brim
Burning solid
Burning thin the burning rim
Like stars burning holes right through the dark
Flicking fire like saltwater into my eyes
You were one inch from the edge of this bed
I drag you back a sleepyhead, sleepyhead

They couldn’t think of something to say the day you burst
With all their lions and all their might and all their thirst
They crowd your bedroom like some thoughts wearing thin
Against the walls against your rules against your skin
My beard grew down to the floor and out through the doors
Of your eyes but go in disguise like a sleepyhead, sleepyhead

Go ahead

Also, Current TV is now in my regular rotation of the few channels I check to see what’s on. Their programming is pretty effin amazing.
